The standard option for most people under 40 or anyone correcting only near- or far-sightedness. Cheapest and simplest lens type.
Blends distance, mid-range, and reading correction into one lens with a smooth transition. The modern replacement for bifocals — costs more, takes a short adjustment period, but avoids the visible line.
A distinct near-vision segment at the bottom of the lens with a visible line separating it from distance correction. Cheaper than progressive and some people find the sharper zone boundary easier to adapt to.
For close-up tasks only — reading, screens. Not meant to be worn while walking around or driving.
Reduces blue wavelength light from screens. Worth adding if you're on a screen most of the day; skip it if screen time isn't a factor for you — it doesn't sharpen vision on its own.
One lens doubles as sunglasses outdoors and clears back up inside. Convenient if you don't want a separate pair of prescription sunglasses, though it typically won't darken behind a car windshield.
Mainly relevant for sunglasses and driving lenses — reduces glare off roads, water, and snow. Doesn't affect indoor prescription lenses.
A standard lens gets noticeably thick at higher prescriptions. High-index material keeps the lens (and the frame's overall look) slimmer — worth the upgrade if your prescription is on the stronger side.
